Get This Year’s Red Carpet Looks: 2017 in Glam Beauty & Makeup
Red carpet beauty needs no introduction. As beauty and makeup lovers, we wait every year to fawn over the most revered starlets. Together with their stylists and MUAs (makeup artists), the red carpet is the quintessential platform to showcase classic, trending and soon-to-be style and beauty favorites for the year; a platform for future must-haves.
Here’s a collection of our most notable beauty takeaways from the 2017 award shows so far, plus some tips on how to get your hands on the products that celebrity makeup artists actually use.
Rich and dramatic reds are as always de rigeur—it’s a red carpet event, after all. This goes especially for beauties with a darker skin tone and a regal poise to spare. Try matching your eyeshadow to your crimson lipstick by using products from Chanel’s Le Rouge collection to create a bold lip, and their Illusion D’Ombré to adorn your eyes with a burgundy shadow. Your captivating look will be even more striking with the Inimitable Intense Mascara in Rouge Noir and Noir.
Pro tip: Use different shades of mascara to intensify your eye shade, matching bottom lashes to your shadow for an extra pop of color!
Now, how about a gorgeous look for the stunners with tan skin? We have just the thing. Picture this: soft, sexy, bronze and nude colors, but with more of a golden undertone, in honor of the of the glamorous event you’re attending (or even just to make your day that little bit special). To create the look, start with a base of La Mer skincare products, followed by La Mer’s collection of foundation essentials for a soft, even glow. Add to the look with bronze, highlighting tones around the eyes and cheeks, finishing with a nude lip.
While most stars stick to “classic” makeup for award shows (porcelain skin, nude lips and earthy eyes), we were delighted to see some of them take a risk with dramatic eye shadow, most notably in shades of deep lavender. To emulate this daring style, frame your eyes with a lustrous lavender shadow using CoverGirl’s Eye Enhancers Shadow and Clinique’s Colour Surge Eye Shadow palette for a multifaceted effect.
Is your hair blindingly blonde? Does it make you feel like a bit of a risk-taker? Then put some “spring” in your step with a juicy selection of colors. Play off your beautiful hair by going bold with hot pink lipstick, courtesy of a mixture of Lancome’s L’Absolu Rogue lipcolor.
The winners for best skin of the 2017 so far are hands down the Black actresses and pop stars. To get their look for less, go with Vaseline’s Intensive Care Cocoa Radiant Lotion made with 100% pure cocoa butter, which will give you an unparalleled golden glow.
Another fabulous secret to an infallible glow? A sultry tan from St. Tropez called “One Night Only”. This fitting formulation is ever-fashionable and should be used generously yet evenly. Re-create the look by using this and other products from the St. Tropez collection.
As far as hair goes, many actresses stole the show with texturized curls that captivated us all. Try re-creating the barreling, fluffy curls that jump out in every direction using a curling iron and a suite of texturizing hair products, “shellacking” every curl from root to tip to keep the bounce, volume and shine reverberating all evening. To achieve this look, use products from these TIGI collections: Foxy Curls and Curlesque.
Some celebrities also took a big risk by going with blunt bangs and even enhancing them with Moroccanoil volume and shine products. Shop the collection of Moroccanoil products.
Is the classic Hollywood hair more up your street? L’Oreal Paris products are here to help. Prime your roots with a boosting mousse followed by a volumizing blowout, add billowing curls with the help of a curling iron, and finish with a gentle comb-through and stabilizing L’Oreal hairspray. Brand Takeover: NARS
It’s hard not to notice that one brand seems to be on everyone’s lips (eyes and cheeks, too) this season. NARS has been the selection of choice for the top makeup artists; probably because many of their palettes feature exquisite nudes, a common choice for the elegant award shows. The MUAs use them to give their clients that coveted “clean, beautiful and not to overdone” look, occasionally made a little more dramatic with products like NARS’ Seaside Sun Wash Diffusing Bronzer.
Also featured were bold lip looks provided by the brand’s selection of shades, from a fiery orange-red and an oxblood burgundy shade to a brick red tone from the “Audacious” line. Especially the last one will be beautifully complemented with NARS “Dual-Intensity” shadow in Himalia.
